Ministry of Labour Worker and Supervisor Legislated Training

Worker and Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness training are component of a suite of products that is being developed by the Ministry of Labour to meet our commitment on mandatory health and safety awareness training in the workplace.

With the goal of making health and safety awareness training mandatory for workers, a regulation will be required and as such, stakeholders will be consulted on the regulatory proposal.

Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps is intended to introduce workers to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). This training program is focused on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers and is a general introduction to workplace health and safety. If you already provide your workers with health and safety training or information, you may not need to deliver this. This training program is for general awareness of rights and responsibilities and does not, in any way, replace specific workplace health and safety training.

Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps explains the responsibilities of supervisors and describes what Ontarioís Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) expects from them, their employers and the workers they supervise. The OHSA defines a supervisor as anyone who "has charge of a workplace or authority over a worker." This training program is for anyone who supervises and provides direction to workers.  If you already provide your supervisors with health and safety training or information, you may not need to deliver this. The focus here is on general awareness of rights and responsibilities and does not, in any way, replace the Act or its regulations or any other training that may be required for supervisors.

Worker and Supervisor Suggested Training

Supervisorís Health & Safety and the Law has been designed to not only meet but to exceed the equivalency guideline posted by the Ministry of Labour (Ont) for the mandatory health and safety awareness program for supervisors.  This course reviews the legislation currently covering supervisors, and reviews concepts such as the IRS, competency and leadership.

This course is ideal for employers wishing to ensure their current supervisory staff complies with the Ministry of Labour mandatory program for supervisors, as well as serving as an ongoing training program for new supervisors, just assuming their supervisory responsibilities.
